Why Matt?
What youth need most is a positive role model who can teach them how to navigate the ups and downs of life successfully. Not many are more inspiring and worthy of emulation than Matt Pond. Youth are instantly drawn to his humor and charisma. This performance will show youth that no matter what life hands you, it is how you come out on the other side that counts. Being victorious is not about having the ideal life, it is about taking what life hands you, and with courage and a never-give-up attitude, you can be a winner! Matt talks about never having a bad day – life is too short to have bad days. There are good days and better days.
This performance is highly interactive. Youth will get to experience what it would be like to lose the use of limbs and have to adapt to new ways of performing life’s daily tasks by getting on stage to perform a one-handed maneuver tying a necktie or shoes or folding clothes.
Most importantly, youth will learn the value of education. Matt lost his ability to read and write following his second brain surgery. He will share the process of learning to read and write all over again – at 36 years old, and how he went on to finish his college education and go on to thrive in his new normal.
