Why Matt?

Matt designed a performance to inspire, encourage, motivate, and educate clinicians and patients alike. Matt will share his story of diagnosis and his experience with treatment and the side effects. Being diagnosed with a Glendioloma Glioblastoma tumor mix, he had about a 1% chance of survival. After radiation, eight rounds of chemotherapy, and three surgeries, this program will give you a great appreciation of the rigors and wonders of modern medicine and provide hope for those still fighting this battle.

Three surgeries left Matt paralyzed on his entire right side, unable to read and write, and loss of his peripheral vision. See how Matt has adapted and overcome these challenges, learning to read and write again so that he could finish his college degree. Re-learning how to do things with one hand, like tying a tie and his shoes, changing a baby's diaper, folding clothes, building shelving, etc. Most impressively, he will demonstrate his unique, one-handed guitar playing.  Matt had played for nearly 20 years and had written many songs so with great determination, he learned to play again.  You will love his collection of old favorites, humorous renditions, and songs he has written and shared throughout the performance.

Matt loves speaking with other patients and is highly personable and approachable.  He is a great symbol of tenacity and optimism that draws cancer patients and their families to him.  Clinicians are amazed at his recovery and adaptations.
